So my weekly baby notification cracked me up today. At 10 weeks the babies are just under the size of a kumquat. You might be in the same boat as me, having heard this word as a kid, not used in the context it is here. (It was something like "You're a kumquat!") I always wondered what the heck it was, but never considered it wouldn't be something okay to say. Okay, I'll tell you now, it is an edible fruit as described by my Webster dictionary, the same one I used to look up my spelling words in 6th grade (pregnant nose here: it smells like an old book). So I am still curious more about this fruit, so I am referring to Wikipedia (online dictionary) and it is a fruit that falls in the citrus family, and is much like an orange, although smaller and oval, so about 1 1/4 the long way. (Baby's are measured Crown to rump until 20 weeks, so it is actually longer but since the legs are curled up and not to proportion yet, they aren't included.) Wendy says Kumquats grow all over Portugal (which I won't be visiting this summer again, but maybe Sevi and Pat can find one for me).
The website I get my weekly updates from says the babies are swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. I bet the almost fetuses are coming up with there own game of soccer, still not sure how they will get a soccer ball in there but if I swallowed a blueberry, it might be perfect size for them (the challenge would be to get it to them, without it loosing it's plump shape.) Perhaps it's worth a try?
